Iat-o LIVE in Berlinul lui 1967 ... interpretind "Blues For Mama"
Cel care a plasat clipul pe youTube, zice urmatoarele: "Nina seems to be really pissed-off, looking around into the awfull public... "
"Even when she was the most talked about singer in jazz, she reminded people that she was definitely not a jazz pianist or singer - she was a classically trained pianist." (din recenzia cartii PRINCESS NOIRE: THE TUMULTUOUS REIGN OF NINA SIMONE, by Nadine Cohodas)
She's an amazing performer, agreed, but she does look
irritated here-- she is normally very relaxed and in control on stage, though
also very serious. The more you watch this video the more it becomes obvious
it's the pianist, who is off-time. You have to know her stage manner very well
to pick up on it though, it's relatively subtle, clicking her fingers etc. Once
she gets on the piano though and takes control, she starts enjoying herself more
and playing the song like she wants.
Outfit is just fabulous!! Such
talent. Wow.
Only Nina can get away with that outfit!!! Great video!!
RIP NINA!! YOU ARE THE BEST!!!!!
Nina always performed with a
stoic facial expression. That's part of what made her performances so powerful,
the contrast between that and the pure emotion of her voice. Amazing woman,
amazing gift.
What a juxtaposition. A very conservatively dressed
German audience and a bold, sultry, sexy, provacatively dressed Nina. She seemed
in rare form, for this appearance. Nina was eccentric, reclusive, moody, but
most of all a musical genius. Either you are going to listen or watch Nina. I
choose to do both.
Just a guess....she's disqusted.....she's singing
with her soul and the piano player is simply playing the notes....no feeling.
She finally moves him off the piano bench and takes over......yeah!!!!! In 1967
I was graduating from High School!!!! I will be 60 this July!!!!! I remember the
then outrageous outfits....it was such a fun time!!!! Nina was so gorgeous and
she went on to become famous all over the world...a giant talent.
